Phlebotomist - Laboratory, PRN, As Needed

Job Summary

Under direction of site management performs basic and advanced phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and capillary collections; specialized procedures; EKGs.

Utilizing standard venipuncture techniques, appropriate blood specimens are collected by adhering to correct collection and transport protocol including positive patient identification.
Performs specialized blood collection procedures such as capillary collections, blood cultures, paternity testing and glucose tolerance tests adhering to defined protocols.
Performs EKG testing according to defined protocol.
Performs non-blood specimen collections according to defined collection and transport protocols.
Processes patient specimens according to defined procedures.
Performs patient registration and test ordering according to defined procedures.
Follows all laboratory safety procedures to minimize the risk to self and others; reports gaps and/or recommendations.
May precept and orientate new associates or students in phlebotomy skills or tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Detail-oriented, emphasizes accuracy. Ability to handle workload in stress filled environment without producing errors. Tolerance for tedium/repetition. Must be able to perform a variety of basic skills according to patient care need and apply skills for the care role. Must demonstrate the ability to organize, prioritize and manage time.
Basic computer, data entry, typing, filing and organization skills required.
Abilities: Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.
Environmental Conditions: Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors. Frequent changes in temperature may occur. Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
