Under the direction of the Manager Technical Services (St. Joseph) oversees testing activities in the area of clinical specialty which includes: technical personnel training and competency assessments; equipment validation and maintenance; quality control; policies and procedures; proficiency testing; occurrence reporting; performance monitors and process improvement; regulatory and safety compliance. The Technical Specialist maintains competencies and test proficiency in the specialty area.
The Technical Specialist will provide technical oversight of the Oncology, Niles and Watervliet laboratories, specific to the specialty area, in collaboration with onsite management with the goal of assuring test standardization and reviewing test quality data to insure accurate results which includes review of records and recommendations for corrective actions.
ā ¢ Trains and evaluates associates in a technical specialty creating and completing initial, 6 month, 12 month and annual competencies with appropriate records. ā ¢ Establishes department policies, processes and procedures for manual and automated testing-waived, moderate and high complexity testing, including the responsibility for management of all online procedure manuals. ā ¢ Assists with daily work assignments to insure timely and accurate results at the core laboratory. ā ¢ Establishes procedures and ordering levels for supplies and reagents in the area of specialty, in collaboration with onsite management. ā ¢ Ensures ongoing compliance, in the area of specialty, in regards to laboratory accreditation standards and documents evidence of compliance using laboratory software. ā ¢ Completes proficiency testing and quality control evaluations and analysis for all sites as defined by laboratory policy and procedures. ā ¢ Resolves technical problems, communicates and escalates as appropriate. ā ¢ Responsible for new test validation and all associated records. ā ¢ Monitors department activities through performance measures, identifies opportunities for improvement and is able to implement process change based on team recommendations. ā ¢ Committed to the continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service.
