Assistant Prosecuting Attorney:
Trial Attorney GENERAL
Summary:
Under supervision of the County's Prosecuting Attorney, assists in prosecuting routine complaints for and on behalf of the County and other official agencies.
TYPICAL DUTIES 1.
Receives and reviews police reports and arrest warrants from police departments.
Advises police agencies on proper legal procedures.
2.
Prepares legal briefs for submission to Circuit and District Courts, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
3.
Represents the people of the State of Michigan in jury and non-jury felony cases in the Circuit Court and District Court, as well as argues cases in front of the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
4.
Assists less experienced Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys by recommending strategies and techniques.
5.
Exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment throughout each state of the criminal justice process and in the preparation of cases.
6.
Completes special projects and assignments as requested by the Prosecuting Attorney.
7.
Participate in community outreach programs of personal interest to the applicant that align with the office goals.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from accredited law school is required.
Experience:
Must have graduated from an accredited law school.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Admission to practice before the Michigan Supreme Court is required within four months after the administration of the last bar exam.
