Patient Service Specialist REPORTS TO:
Front Office Supervisor
Summary:
Ensuring excellent customer service, the Patient Service Specialist is responsible for greeting and scheduling patients.
Checks patients in and out for their appointments.
This person is also responsible for answering phone calls, triaging the calls when necessary.

Basic computer skills and organizational skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build cooperative working relationships with all staff members, patient, families, and visitors.

Ability to relate and work effectively with others, demonstrating respect for co-workers and doctors.
5.
Understand and demonstrate importance of maintaining a neatly organized work area.
6.
High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
7.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and be adaptable to various and changing situations.
8.
Understand and have responsibility for own actions.
9.
Ability to multi-task.
Responsibilities:
1.
Professionally and accurately performs patient check-ins and check-outs.
2.
Schedules patient appointments according to scheduling protocols.
3.
Sorts fee sheets in numerical order.
4.
Answers phones, providing excellent customer service.
5.
Reschedules missed and bumped appointments.
6.
Performs late-night duties as required.
7.
Performs opening duties as required.
8.
Maintains basic understanding of ophthalmic terminology and abbreviations.
9.
Orders office supplies as needed, including coffee supplies for waiting area.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to demonstrate customer-focused interpersonal skills in order to interact in an effective manner with physician, staff, patients and families.
Ability to collaborate with all teams and various levels of personnel as part of a team.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and have time management skills.
Ability to work extended work hours beyond normal work schedule to include but not limited to evenings, extended shifts, and or extra shifts on short notice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be in good physical and mental health.
Long periods in stationary positions required throughout work period.
The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the office.
The person in this position frequently communicates with patients, patients' families, co-workers, and doctors.
Must have ability to cope with physical and mental stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Potential exposure to fumes, dust gases, and odors.
Frequent changes in temperature may occur.
Possibility of exposure to communicable disease.

Must be able to rotate among all Great Lakes Eye Care office locations.
